1991 Chevy 3500 truck will not start

Was driving it home from work one morning and it died on me on the way home. Put a new alternator in it and drove it home. Got it home and now it will not start. Had a friend of mine come over and look at it and we figured out that its not getting fuel to the motor. Would it be the fuel filter, or the fuel pump. If it is the filter where would it be at? If fuel pump would it be in the tank? If so it has 2 tanks which one would it be in? Thanks in advance.

Before we get too far into it. How did you figure out the engine isn't getting fuel? The best way would be a pressure test just for the fact it's possible to have pressure but still have a fuel problem causing a no start....
Just a couple of things you can check would be the oil level, I believe that system does have a cutoff if the oil pressure is too low via the oil pressure sending unit. Then check for power & ground at the pump, should be a grey or tan & white wire & the ground would be black.
I haven't done a lot of dual tanks but the pump should be in the left tank.. Maybe after you've verified for sure it's a no fuel pressure problem, someone will post a wiring diagram for you if you need one....
A fuel filter shouldn't cause a no start but if it got that plugged up that it did.........The pump really needs to be changed as well..... trust me it wouldn't be long for this world anymore.............
