Black means its running too rich. Probably fouling the plug out. Once the plug is fouled the spark doesn't jump. Cylinder is getting too much fuel for some reason. How do the other plugs look?

Try this. Unplug your distributor electrical connector. That way you won't have spark or injector pulse. Then squirt some oil into #5. Crank the engine over a few times. Retest your compression (static) on that cylinder. See if it comes up. Maybe it is getting washed out by the fuel that isn't burning.
