Well we will tackle the stalling and no-start problem first. First of all when it wont start you need to figure out what is missing, Fuel or Spark. You can use a spark tester or ground a plug and look for spark while cranking. Get a fuel pressure tester (you can get this from auto parts store loan a tool program). Measure you fuel pressure while cranking. I suspect it's fuel problem since it takes quite a few cranks to start. Also what engine is in your truck?

Try giving the bottom of the tank a few taps with a rubber mallot while a assistant cranks it over. If it starts up you'll need a fuel pump. If not you may be into electrical or pump.
