I checked and serviced the freon R-12 and the same thing happened. Today i evac'd the system and put R-12A in it. Now the clutch engages but it only blows hot air. The pressure is reading good, no bubbles in the sight glass, but only hot air comes out. I felt the tubes coming out of the compressor and both are hot. Lines shouldn't get way too hot which indicates problems with charge amount - guess. What's the high side pressure?
