Hi, crew. After ages of lurking and reading these forums, I finally have a problem worth asking about. My gf has a 1989 Volvo 244DL with the 2.3L 4 cyl engine and 149,000 miles on it. When driving, the dashboard and the radio get really hot. As in too-hot-to-touch. I've never smelled it, but she claims to occasionally smell a "burning, fireworks-like" smell. I'm worried about that. Some history of the car: She bought it last August from an old man in Seattle who literally was on his deathbed. The machine is in pristine shape, it's clear coat is even in excellent shape. This car was well-taken care of, so I'm suspecting this might be an age-related issue? This car does need to have the AC serviced, but so does my truck and it NEVER does any of those things so I doubt the AC is the culprit. Any help will be immensely appreciated. I thank you all very much.

The only thing I could suggest is to check all the ground straps and ground connections. It sounds like current may be finding an alternative path to ground. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Good food for thought. It hadn't occurred to me to check the grounding. I shall look into this.
