Changed the starter in a car that just stopped starting one day.
Once changed, we had to JUMP the car to get it to start. After that, starting the car was a crap shoot. 3 weeks passed, car had to be jumped everytime now...
so I decided to take the newly replaced started off, get it tested thinking it was a bad starter.. it was. Got a replacement starter again.. SAME thing. however, it started a bit faster this time.. but, still needed a jump...

Starting the car had been labored.. meaning, it drags then, it will start. After 2 days, nothing again... sounded like it wanted to, then just putters out.. I'm thinking it's the battery.. I placed it in my car and it started it right up (newer car)...

SO, we JUMP it again, and it started right up... so far, it has started up when tried. I just don't want my son to always have to pray if his car is gonna start everytime...

Thoughts?

Battery cables may not be able to carry the full amps in the older car. It's hard to believe another poor starter and since it behave with a jump perhaps consider a new, powerful battery. You could get the battery load tested or measure voltage drop while starting. If you need to same some money right now try the new car's battery in the older one and see if it still is sluggish - then I would blame the cables.

Ions ago I used to replace them anyway for monster V8s to start better with then called 6v cables or (one) gauge. That made a lot of difference.

Also know that when you are jumping a car you have two batteries working and increased voltage as the donor car should be running so it would work better with all other things the same,
