1989 Ford Country Squire not starting

My vehicle is a 1989 Ford Country Squire Wagon. My problem is it won't start and all I am getting is a clicking or rattling sound. I have replaced the battery twice, replaced the positive and negative cables and had the latest battery fully charged. Something is draining the battery, but it is not the alternator. I replaced it back in July. I believe it is the starter and/or cylinoid, but I need to know there location on the car and how to repair. Thank you.

The rattling, clicking, noise that you describe sounds like low voltage. You'll need a voltmeter and a test light. First, check the voltage of the battery. A fully charged 12V battery should have 13.2V. (1.2V per cell).(first, make sure everything in the vehicle is turned off, key out of the ignition, and doors closed. If you have a light under the hood, remove the bulb, ect.) Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, put one end of the test light to the negative cable, the other end to the negative post of the battery. If the light is nice and bright, then you have a drain. A dim light could just be radio memory, PCM, ect. Depending on the engine, you could have two solenoids; One on the starter and one on the fenderwell, usually near the battery (the positive battery cable would go directly to it). Solenoid failures are not common of Fords, but do go bad.
