1st step would be to see what you are losing.... Spark? or Fuel? and then go from there.....

If there are any overdue maintance items, take care of those 1st. If it solves the problem.... Great! if not, it need to be done anyway.

Maybe take a vacuum reading & make sure you're around 18', when it's idling you can partially cover the carb & if the engine speeds up, you're probably gonna be looking for a vacuum leak...........

Where is the vacuum line attached? We have an '89 Dodge 5.2L pickup in the shop right now with virtually the same symptoms. Turns out that one of the injectors 'comes and goes'. Might want to remove the air cleaner and watch the injectors at idle to see if both are working. Just a thought.

That vacuum line may be the one going to the air cleaner? (TAC) Should be a vacuum routing diagram under the hood or on the core support. Check the base of the TBI (in front) and see if there are any ports open. If so, try to figure out where they should be connected to while looking at the routing diagram. If you can't figure it out, plug it off so it isn't 'sucking' vacuum during testing. If you have a way of downloading a picture of the base of the TBI, that would help.
