CrazyCrazy 1988 Chrysler 5th Avenue!!!!!!!!

I just took out my altenator because it went dead on the freeway due to the belt busting on the freeway also which ended up killing the battery also. So now I got the car towed to my house now I don't have the money to go to a mechanic so I have to replace the fan belt and the altenator belt myself.

I got a repair book thinking it would point me in the right direction to repair the belts, well it did in regards to removing the altenator I got my tools and got that removed easy enough but now I'm looking at the two areas where the belts are suppose to go and that is confusing as heck. It looks like for a 1988 Chrysler 5th Avenue I have to remove all the belts and then some other parts to get to the altenator belt and fan belt?????????????

I have to be to work tomorrow so I must install the belts today. I have all the belts and purchased the new altenator. I just need to know how to install the belts??? Please Help me????????

Shocked I'm looking at the belts and like I said because I didn't have a point of origin to start from because the belts busted themselves I really don't have much to work on.

I just need to figure out how to loop them back on. I don't think I need a special tool for my chrysler 5th avenue belts, it looks like it's a nut and bolt type of tightening in regards to tightening and loosening the belts. please help me Angelic

Now the question is why did they break? Spin the pulleys now with no belts and bet you find one that's bad. If the new alternator froze up it has to be replaced again and if you just did that the place probably would provide you the new belts. Are these pre tensioned or self tensioned belts? Self tensioners go bad too or any idler pulleys. With multiple belts if one plain breaks for any reason even just too old it can take the other off. Chances are there's only one reason this happened.

Bummer that your in a hurry as if you find a bad pulley you'll have to fix that first. Does this still have a belt routing diagram on sticker underhood? If not it can be confusing and I'll try to find a routing diagram but the site I was using got a it fussy - good luck and get to it as parts may not be readily available if needed so pick a plan B for your needs,

Just saw your second question - I'm not there looking and the site was "broken" it said that I use. You may have to do belts in sequence and if no diagram you can do it but have to think hard how they go. Now it's a weekend so may be hard to find a mechanic. There may be a mobile mechanic in your area which is popular for small stuff in some places,

Added on edit: If these belts are NOT self tensioned you need to check them again as new they will stretch some or perhaps too much. Usually stable in a day of use. It's near impossible for me to describe how to leave them just a smidge too tight when brand new which will be just right quickly - new cars knew how to do that like clockwork and techs get the idea so you don't have to come back. Don't go nuts if you are setting the tension as that is real hard on pulley bearings or anything belt driven,

well the altenator already died and killed the battery with it. So I purchased a brand new altenator and belts and battery yesterday evening. I'm just trying to figure out how to remove the other belts so I can get to the altenator and fan belt to install them. so will I have to remove all the belts to replace the fan and altenator belt?

Found nothing for diagrams or specific procedures and when I looked showed this should have only one belt so I'm lost without being there.

BTW - you need to charge the battery with a charger or will likely hurt a new alternator. This is routine for a tech and would need no books to do this. You also need to check voltage with new alternator to know it's working. Should show 12.2 or so engine off and 13s to 14.8 (not more than that) or so engine running. If no change you still have a problem with charging system,
