I got this Scottsdale that is normally known for being reliable. Has a 350 motor, but just yesterday I went to start it, and it would not crank. Nothing happened at all though. Lights work, battery has plenty of power, and connections seem good. But what looks to be a series of grounds in the upper left corner of the firewall starts to smoke. One wire in particular heats up and smokes. It looks like it goes over the top of the tranny. I believe it might go to the Solenoid on the starter. I'm pretty stuck with this, I'm just not sure what it is. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The ground for the starter solonoid is the engine metal which should be directly grounded with neg battery cable. The ground straps you see probably don't even have insulation on them but some do. The body needs to be grounded to the engine for all items that use the body for ground. Hmmm......... some of these had a ground cable right off the battery to the body and others but are not adequate for the power needed for the starter. Check that battery cable to block at the block, bet it's not getting good contact,
