i have a 1985 monte carlo ss and i was wondering if anyone on here would now about whats goin on with its performance. the problem is this, when it is going at an average speed and isnt accelerated to a high speed it runs just fine and doesnt seem to have any problems at all but when i stomp on the gas and open the throttle it speeds up for a few seconds then begins to skip and wants to cut off, except it doesnt fully cut off it just skips like one second it speeds up then the next it acts like it wants to shut off and it does like that continiously. i have a few theories and was wondering if an expert of any kind could give me some advice, my theory is that i could be the high performance cam or the float level in my quadrajet is too high. any help would be much appreciated and i thank you for taking the time to read this.

This was somewhat common on the Quadrajets aka QuadraBog! Clean it up in and out and check out the choke system. This should use electric heat to shut off choke entirely and you should be able to see and feel that black housing (spring with heater) open the choke. The adjustment of the choke pull offs (front and rear) and the connecting linkage is critical to allowing the back barrels to operate. The choke like plate at top of back barrels won't open fully until primary choke is fully open AND may only allow back choke plate to open when it senses the drop in intake manifold vacuum (when asking for power) and that top plate acts as an intermediate blend of fuel for the WOT surprise of either full power or full bog!

Yes - if those aren't just so and you stomp on it, it can stall right out!

Note: Many Quads needed adjustment when brand new! There's a lot of sensitive adjustments,

T
