1981 Plymouth Caravelle V8 cranks but wont start no fuel to carb Sign In

The car has been sitting for about 3 years. No gasoline in the tank.
I'm curious what the normal startup procedure is for a completely fuel dry carb engine with a mechanical fuel pump lets say hypothetically from the factory
What is the minimum gasoline required in the fuel tank? (I put in 4 gallons which is a good quarter tank on the fuel gauge)...does the car need to be near level eg no flat rear tire?
Is any kind of priming required such as starter fluid in the air intake? (I don't want to play around with starter fluid, is carb & choke cleaner a better choice)?
Or is just as simple as cranking the engine for less than 20 seconds will always bring fuel to the carb if everything in the fuel system is ok?
I pulled out the fuel filter and didn't seem plugged.
Maybe I need at least a half a tank of gas at min and/or I need the engine to run a bit in order to bring fuel forward? Is the fuel line actually pressurized like newer cars with electronic fuel pumps in the gas tank and efi?

Oh, you're going to have a lot more issues than just adding fuel. The car has been sitting with no fuel for 3 years.
The tank is going to have a lot of internal corrosion as will the carb also. The fuel lines going forward will likely be rusted also.

You are going to have to start with removing the tank and cleaning and inspecting the inside. Replace the carb, that one will be useless. You can test the fuel lines with vacuum to see if they are sealed or not.

Thanks for the response.
I agree entirely with you but it still leaves open the question if there is any special protocol even after all that work is done in regards to starting the engine.A special protocol for pressurizing the fuel system is required for fuel injection vehicles with electronic fuel pumps.
But with these older vehicles with carbs and mechanical fuel pumps what was done coming from the factory?
Just treat it as a hypothetical. The entire fuel system is dry. What is the min amount of fuel in the tank and how long does the starter need to work before the engine will start? Thats all that is required I assume or am I wrong?

Before you even try to start it you will be working on the whole fuel system with cleaning, repairing and testing.

Through this process you will be testing the system and bringing fuel through the pump. If you aren't getting fuel to the carb, then you aren't going to trying to start it.

You will likely remove all the spark plugs to crank the engine once the tank is cleaned out and the lines are replaced or confirmed good so you can confirm good CLEAN fuel supply to the carb.

We haven't talked about the fuel filter because that's a given it's going to be replaced.
