1973 Ford LTD hood latch

The hood latch on my 1973 Ford LTD won't release. It's not the release cable.

Probably just stuck. Spray the daylights out of it with WD-40 from under - up thru grille any way you can. No joke -- then about sit on the front of hood - just the hood not the nose piece while someone pulls on the cable. If cable works it should open and then spray even more and cover all that with spray grease. Work the mechanism without closing the hood again to see it work and you should be set,
