1965 Ford Thunderbird wont Idle/Stay on. Sign In

Hi there I am working on getting my first car road worthy. Its a 1965 Ford Thunderbird. 390 V8. 2 Barrel. When I start it it will stay on for a while the after a while it will stop but when I give it gas it will almost always just stop. I have gotten her to idle for about 5 minutes but it will then eventually die out. My father and I are stumped as to what it could be. Help would be awesome.

Those symptoms are a lot like a coil getting heat sinked. You could use a spark tester to determine if spark is dropping out when this happens.

Thank you for the response. Would that just mean I would need to replace the coil? Also any other things I should try out if thats not it?

I'm not telling you to just throw parts at it. You need to do some leg work to determine if spark is the issue.
