03 Grand Prix with the 3.8 motor. Why does the manual call for 10w-30 oil when almost all other newer GM products (including the HD trucks) call for 5w-30? I live in the Minneapolis, MN area.

A lot of the newer vehicles call for 5W30 for fuel economy reasons. IMHO, 10W30 gives the engine a bit better protection, as I feel that the 5W is so 'thin', but, I'm a dinosaur. Since you live in the midwest, you may want to run the thinner stuff so that your engine will turn over when it's minus 20F? Every new car/truck I've had, since '92 has 'called' for 5W30, but have run 10w30 in all of them.
