08 ford escape, vibratting sound with accelleration

08 ford escape, vibratting sound with accelleration

I am having this very annoying sound that is loudest with acceleration. I was told that it was a loose or missing screw in the heat shield, and later told it was the muffler. If I could hopefully pinpoint the problem my boyfriend might be able to fix it. Have you heard of other escapes with this problem.

Might be a heat shield or other exhaust something. Easy to test just tapping on right spots of exhaust system pipes and parts with a rubber hammer while cold and most will show up. If a tack weld on a heat shield you may be able to fix it where stronger (avoid hurting converter itself) with a screw or well placed stainless steel worm clamps CAN hold it snug and in proper place. Those can go end to end to get the right length to go all around with some thought it's somewhat hackery but can work well for a long time.
If that, check but so far haven't found a replacement kit for just catalytic converter heat shields but ask. No matter what if shields) wherever they need to work and be in proper place,

If your boyfriend can't pinpoint the noise by listening to it, he probably won't be able to fix it either. Get a pro to diagnose it correctly and then you can make a repair decision. You're not going to find a noise over the Internet.

Just curious, but is your BF a giraffe?
If the BF does decide to tackle this himself, make sure your vehicle has full coverage insurance. Tell him not to use a claw hammer to bang on the catalyst housing. Might want to swing into a repair shop and have them check it out. If this is a northern ride, there could be rust problems with the exhaust.

Plenty of driveway remedies out there to secure a heat shield, but they end up temporary at best. If indeed just a loose shield a muffler shop would find it quick and tack weld it down which would be a lasting repair and a reasonable price.
