03 town and country has 3.8 engine, 4 wheel disc w/abs brakes brake pedal very low. no leaks present at hoses or calipers. fluid level in master cyl. normal. no warning light for brake or abs. I`m not sure if problem is master cyl. or abs. does chry. have a history of this?

Re: 03 chry. t/c minivan low brake pedal Sign In

Ok: Did this happen all of a sudden? That may help but I leave some other things to check too.

1. With all four discs pedal height (where it feels firm) is dictated somewhat by pad wear as the volume of fluid under pressure is greater on pressured side when they get worn low.

2. Master cylinders can go bad in anything and aren't terribly over common to any one type vehicle that I know. Check to see what the master looks like. If a common looking one it shouldn't be too big of a deal and it could be the fault. Frequently a bad or failing master cylinder will pump up to a decent feel and fade away to floor but I suppose it could catch before that. It's basically rubber cupped seals making pressure and they can give out. Suggest new not reman if you decide that's it.

* Note: Not the Mopar guy here but there's one or more master cylinders out there that is disgustingly expensive. Can't say for this one as it may have a more ordinary one. Have vin # at the ready and call a parts store you might use and see what the questions are if any for the exact vehicle.

** Do you feel like brakes are working and just a low pedal? Normally if just one end (systems typically set up so front and rear are separated) or does it demonstrate loss of braking ability which of course makes this an emergency? When that happens you should be getting a red warning light indicating brake imbalance of pressure - many vehicles use the same light for leaving parking brake on,
