'03 Sunfire vent mystery

'03 sunfire has 4 round upper vents (1each side, 2 in middle) When vent is selected, driver side vent shoots almost no air, while other 3 are ok (fan speed works fine). The air selector seems to be connected to one steel cable going up behind the dash on the driver's side. Why is only one upper vent blocked? Was given info that access to vent doors is difficult and involves mega hours of labor. Any suggestions? Schematics of what's at the other end of the cable? Thanks!
