'03 Ford Focus - Brake Pedal Longer Travel Distance Sign In

Hey guys.

Yesterday on my 2003 Ford Focus SE 2.0 (96K miles) I replaced the front rotors & pads. The calipers were still in good shape, so those were left be. I was gonna rebuild the rear drums, shoes, & master cylinders as well, but got rained out before I got the chance, and likely won't be able to get back to it until this weekend. We won't be bleeding the brake system until the rear brakes get done.

At any rate, the new pads work great, however the brake pedal's travel distance is now significantly longer than it was before the work on the front brakes. Will the rear brake rebuild & eventual bleeding of the system fix this, or could there be another problem?

Thanks in advance.

Did you open the hydraulic system already?

I hope you didn't really mean you planned to rebuild the Master cylinder, or even the wheel cylinders.

No not yet.

And sorry on the confusion ... replacing, not rebuilding.

If you haven't opened the system yet, then the issue must be mechanical, not hydraulic. Check all the pad positions and the slides.
Also make sure you didn't twist up the flex line too.
