i have a 02 toyota solara that has been rebuilt. The entire rear end was replaced. The problem is once or twice a month the engine will start to hesitate and the rmp gauge will spaz out and it will die.It has always started right back up and might not do it again for a few weeks. The other 99 percent of the time it runs fine.i have had it looked at several times but no one can figure it out. help

The problem with intermittant failures like this is that you cannot test or verify anything as we need to do to confirm a failure. What your describing sounds like an intermittent crankshaft position sensor although that's just an educated guess.
The erratic tach signal points to that also since the crank sensor is responsible for the tach signal.

i never get a engine code. One mechanic thought he found a loose connection on the crankshaft position sensor but it continued dying.

PMJI; Crank sensors seldom set a code.

It likely won't show up in a code and is probably more than just a loose wire. You may have to change the sensor to determine if it's the cause or not.
