02 Liberty loosing coolant Sign In

02 Jeep liberty, 3.7 100,000 miles. Loosing coolant, not overheating yet. I do not see and leak, or steam. No water on the passenger floor carpet. I did replace the coolant recovery tank cap (16Lb). i get a coolant smell but can not find from where.. I turned it to defrost and did not notice any smell. Head gasket?? heater Core?? Will a stop leak help or cause more problems?
Thanks
Don in Portland

You need to have the cooling system pressure tested. The leaks are rarely obvious.

Thanks for asking about the leak stop before adding any. You will waste a ton of money with the problems any leak fix in a can will cause. They flat out don't work and usually plug up everything but the leak. The only fix for any leak is to replace the leaking part. Never use any leak stop product for anything ever. Every day we see what havoc they wreak upon cars and their owners and if it was up to me I'd ban every last one of them from being sold.
