'02 Honda Civic problem Sign In

I have an '02 Honda Civic. A metal rod is hanging down underneath on the passenger side. It is coming out of a hole near the midsection (front to back) of the car and running straight forward and the other end is no longer connected to anything. Any idea as to what this is and what I need to do to correct the issue? Thank you very much!!!

AU; (gold?) Does the emergency brake work? Can't think of anything else with that description. Probably should get it onto a lift and take a look.

Emergency brake was my first thought too, but it seems to work fine. Any other ideas? Thanks!!

The only thing I can think of, if it's a manual tranny, is there is a brace that runs next to the shifter rod that bolts to the tranny......

It does have a manual transmission. The car runs and drives fine. I'm just not sure what this rod is. It's not quite as big around as a pencil, if that helps at all. Thanks again for any help anyone may have.

Re: '02 Honda Civic problem Sign In

Thanks for everyone's help. I just figured out the problem. My wife had run over a 3 ft long metal rod (smaller than a pencil but bigger than a coat hangar). Somehow one end got up into the hole about the size of a quarter and stuck about 6-12 inches deep. It looked like a part of the car protruding out. I pulled it slowly and it pulled all the way out. Thanks again for the assistance. That was a cheap "repair"!!

Thanks for taking the time to let us know. Strange things can happen.Smile You may want to fill the hole with silicone or something suitable so moisture can't get in. Have a great weekend.
