*stuck in park* Sign In

I have a 95 explorer(automatic) that is stuck in park. It starts fine but when i try to move the lever into drive it will not not move. All the fuses are fine , i have brake lites. What could be the cause and is there a quick fix for i can at least drive it to a garage??? Please hrlp!!!

You need to check to see if the cable is moving the linkage on the transmiswsion. Just be extremely cereful if you get under the vehicle to see if the linkage is moving. Could be a cable that has stretches, the shifting linkage on trans may be out of adjustment. Look at these first. If all seems OK, make sure the fluid is full also. Do the easy and cheap stuff first. Let us know.

If it is the shifter solenoid causing this, try turning the ignition key to the first notch (unlock position, so you can move the steering wheel) but not turn the ignition on. Then, try shifting out of park, into neutral. If it works, you should be able to start it, then.

Just a thought: Is this vehicle parked right now on a severe incline? If the "P" park position is used to hold a vehicle with a lot of force it can get VERY stuck and take a push/pull of the whole vehicle to release it. That only if this is on a steep incline now,
