Exhaust Patch?

Hello guys,
How hard is it to fix this exhaust? I was told there was a hole due to rust, and as you can see, there is a patch job here. But I know this patch job is not going to last. I wonder if anyone could let me know approximately how much it costs to fix something like this?
Car Model: 2010 Hyundai Veracruz

IDK what's wrong but couldn't make pic show? At about this age is rust made a hole to patch the rest probably isn't go great.
Price out DIY parts costs, any clamps if doing it yourself.
IF sending it out they'll have to look and give you a quote.
Generally it would be everything behind converter hope that comes apart there OK.
Exhaust like lots of repairs take some tools to just get old stuff out depending on OE set up, might still be?
Replacement parts should be universalized so you could later do one part if needed. Some chain places will weld it all up - it works just really hard to use standard DIY friendly replacement parts,

It is not my car. Someone is trying to sell me this car, so I don't know if it is worth buying for $6000.
I was told that The tape is the exhaust weld wrap, supposed to be made out of fiberglass to withstand the temp to 1100 degrees. The hole was about 1/2 inch big. There is also a fiberglass and steel patch that is welded on underneath.

Any issue is an issue with rusted exhaust. It's up to you to get this car checked out, PRE-PURCHASE then get a quote/guestimate of exhaust alone + anything else found.
Used is still costly out there if overall rust is a problem keep looking.
I can't price anything as worth it or not but if body underside is badly rusted expect problems just from that up to unreasonable to fix.
BTW - Patch is just that not a chance it would last always was an emergency thing to do if no choice at the time.
Seller probably doesn't want to really fix it just to sell it that's up to you - get a real shop to check the thing out.
The agreed price if you get there isn't as important as how much else it might need so you can forget this one on to another.
YOUR SHOP, NOT THE SELLERS! ASK FOR A PRICE TO CHECK A CAR OUT,

Good luck, be smart cars are COSTLY don't start off with a nightmare.
ASK shop charges if just time (an hour) you pay not seller, brakes, front end parts, tire expectations and overall things seen if a rust bucket move on now.
If a seller doesn't want to cooperate "pass" on this one I know it's hard to find good used cars fine if it need something just not that endless nightmare,

That appears to be the Catalytic Converter which reaches temps over 2000 degrees.
There is no way that tape is going to fix anything. That could be quite expensive. I would bet that check engine light is on for a P0420 for the converter.

Bear with me now that Hammer made that pic show have the clue. Yes, it's the converter or shield + patch job might get this home if away is all.
That's rusted enough. See the bolts/studs there are kinda stud/ rivets when those bust and expect just don't try you purposely bust those and punch the stud thru for new + new gasket there.
Everything behind that gets tossed - hangers may be rubber rings or unique those go too.
That's been normal bull for me forever rust outside in not the other way for this. IT COSTS A FORTUNE TO FIX THAT WELL!
THERE'S THE REASONE SELLER KNOWS THAT ALREADY JUST PATCHED IT.
If you otherwise like this car, inspected for disasters with brakes especially and lines is fine if body is still good, engine/trans still good, not too many miles factor about $2,000 quickly is nothing anymore.
Tough days - you'll want help is also hard to find pandemic was a real stress on everyone that included perhaps more local to me.
The cars kept selling so sellers had the upper hand prices went wild but for you it has to be a fix that lasts so the rest of the car matters.
Back to get estimates vs book values (up 25% so heard) adjust price to make you both happy but personally would pass on this one if only it could be tied up for a month to get right for daily use for any money??
OMG it's hard to be an informed buyer seems the seller is just aware the inventory of under higher cost used cars is short just cashing in.
Offer lower to cover it or on to another - hard to find it's tough out there!

This is not simply "rusted out" Converters are made out of high strength steel and they do not just rust out.
The pipe ahead of it which is not made of this high strength material looks fine so something else is going on with this.

More thought: Pass on this. No seller puts "duct tape" to hide something is perhaps a heat shield only - I'm alone (out there) fix them properly and legally shops in chain biz toss whole units no time - understood.
So far what you see shouldn't be leaking? If still at this car put a damp/wet rag AND a welding glove on, block tailpipe(s) and see if exhaust comes out there. Takes a helper.
$6 k isn't free still but on the cheaper end of things whole legal cars.
Rock and hard place for you but at least deal with someone more clever than duct tape fixes!

Looking at the picture you can see that it's a raw converter with no heat shields. The converter seams are clearly visible.
The OP hasn't been back in a while so I guess this thread is dead anyway.

Thank you for making my picture visible! I appreciate it!
After talking to Tom, I watched a few YouTube videos with a few hints from Tom, I narrowed down the search on YT, and figured there might be something wrong with the Catalytic Converter. And I know that is expensive to fix. So I took a pass on that vehicle, let somebody else worry about it! I sure don't want any inherited problems.
