worth buying new engine for ford ka? Sign In

Hi

I have a FORD KA collection W reg, 75, 000 miles. Admittedly I havent looked after it very well. it recently failed its MOT due to excessive blue smoke coming out of exhuaST AND three garages have said the engine has just had it and needs replacing. The question is, is it worth it? they dont seem to think so, but im very reluctant to just scrap my car which ive only had for four years. Ive had a quote for a reconditiooned engine which with labour is £800, and also a used one which is £250 and the company SAY has only done 1000 miles, but they deliver it to you, and I cant really see myself lugging an engine to a garage!! I cant really affrord to part exchange so just dont know what to do. Help!!!

thanks

Sarah

Both prices are in line. Just getting the engine is only part of the problem. You need to have a shop that will install it and stand by their work. Used is a good bet if you have the right source. If unknown it's total gambling. Reconditioned engines IMO are not near as good as an original but should come with a good warranty and with care will probably last as long as you need it to,
