I have a 2000 chevy pu with a 454 FI eng. auto tranny With apx. 90000 miles on it. I can't get it to start. it ran fine one day and wont start now. I am getting fuel, fire, and it cranks over. when I try to start it it cranks over them sort of coughs like its trying to backfire when I stop cranking on it. I had to replace the starter in this process because It broke the nose of the starter when it did this. could it be a crankshaft or cam sensor? help

Just heard of this last week and it was cam and crank sensors. In that case a 5.7 and it first broke the starter then 86ed a chunk out of the block and wrecked the engine!! T
