water leak in back of engine
Hello, I have a 1997 Ford Expedition 5.4 with 180k+ miles and its have a large water leak. I was in the garage when my wife arrived with the car and as soon as she turned the car off I visualized lotes of water caming down from the back of the engine, by the transmission but I cant really locate the leak. (I bypass the heating component about 8 months ago, because it was leaking inside the car.) I check the houses in the heating bypass and they seame to be ok. Can some one recommend what to look for or were to look for to detect it and fix it. thanks a million...

Left side or right side ? is if just water ? or is coolant/antifreeze ? If its just water its probably just the A/C drain, if its Coolant and this is the 5.4 with the Plastic intake in would suspect the intake has a crack in it. Best of luck.

There is a short heater hose under the intake manifold that connects between a heater pipe and the back of the water pump. If the hose goes, coolant will pour out the back of the engine. If you remove the alternator you should see the pipe and hose. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I have a '96 Ford F-150 4.9 (300cc) engine with the same problem and for the life of me can't find the leak. I have bypassed the heater coil and crawled underneath 1/2 dozen times. I'm unable to find the leak. Is there any help for this? I couldn't find a leak at the water pump like susgested. Is it coming from the engine itself? And can it be repaired at home. It's a second vehicle so I can take time and wait awhile, but not forever.
