useing too much fuel 11 miles to a Gal.. Sign In

I have a 1991 GMC 1500 with a 6 cyl not sure what size but I am only getting like 11 miles to a gallon. Somoeone told me that my eshaust manafold gaskets needed to be replace alony with the donuts There is a air sputtering out form the gaskets.. Is this going to help my gas mileage and is $160.00 a good price for the repair with parts.

Thanks for reading my post and resposnding

John

I hate to tell you but that's about all your going to get out of that engine. I have the same engine in a Blazer and I see 12 around town. The 4.3 has never given good mileage.

Hammer is correct on the mileage. As far as the exhaust donuts you will only gain less noise but may prevent a burnt valve down the road. P&L sounds bout right.
