truck runs bad, bad mileage. Sign In

Hi, I have a 1991 toyota 4 runner v6 4x4 3.0l vze with 263,000 miles on it. I havehad this vehicle for five years and obtained it with 243,000 miles on it. I only really use it to pull a 16 foot mid size boatvand for hunting. The problem i am having is that when you statr the truck it takea at least seven attempts to get it to run and once it is running you must keep the rmps in the 2500 range for a minute or two before it will stay running on its own. Once you stop hitting the gas it will back down to 2200. When you put it in gear it will not stay running unless you hit the gas in either gear. Once you put it in. drive you can only push the peddle down app. half an inch, any more and it either does nothing or attempts to stall. It.takes at least twenty ten seconds to go from 0-20, another five seconds to get to 20 and app. one minute to get to 55 where it max's out at. If you five it any more throttle above 35 it will bog down and/or stall while moving. I have checked the codes and attempted to five it myself to no avail. The things i have done so far:

Tune up
checked dist and internal comp (good)
changed egr
changed tps
checked and or changed ign.coil, ignitor
changed fuel filter
checked pump (good)
changed oxygen sensor on muffler
checked nock sensor(good)
battery new and fully charged
fluids all good injectors good and functioning fine
manifold and intake under throlle body good
checked for vacuum leaks with soap and water (non found)
water pump and timing belt less tHan two years old

The only way to get it to start and stay running is to loosen the dist. and turn it all the way clockwise. Any less and it will not stay running. Worked fine up unitl about a year ago and back then it was timed correctly (dist. about midway thru adj. slot position)

This vehicle was never fast, about 0-20 in 5 secondsor so but now it is ridiculous. before would get anout 14+ highway, now maybe 9.
Help!!!

Start off by performing a compression check. Write down the numbers. Be sure the battery is fully charged, the distributor connector is unplugged, and the throttle is wide open when you do your compression check.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

have done the compression check and you are correct, number 1,4, and 6 all have low compression.. Squirted oil in each and retested and compression built to good levels. Added Resoline 4447 to crankcase to ateempt quick repair. Will see over the next 100 miles it helps the piston rings. Thanks for the help, If it works I will let you guys know.
