trouble with my vw bug Sign In

I turned the key and got a pretty good click, so i know i'm getting juice to the starter, but no nturn over. I tried to push start it and got going a a good clip and popped the clutch and the tires actully skidded a bit with no turn over at all. Ithink the engine is seized.Should I be able to turn the fly wheel by hand if the engine is not seized?
old bug early 70's rebuilt or new engine

You do mean the 4 cyl air cooled real "Bug" VW?

General: If pushing and popping the clutch doesn't turn motor and makes wheels skid that isn't so good. Pretty much if you put it in say 3rd and just nudged car back and forth (key off and out) you should see the engine turn crank OR turn crank by the large bolt at the large crankshaft pulley.

Jury still out on whether seized without some testing. If you used first gear for your test of starting it, it might not have had enough leverage in that gear. A hard snap/click by key could be just bad battery connections or telling of the engine too hard to crank.

Is this just a surprise or what lead up to this happening. Was engine fine one minute then this or all kinds of knocks and noises more than those usually makeWink

Yes, you should be able to turn the engine by hand with a 1/2" drive ratchet.
