Hi, The real issue here is that this is custom made and there are some common problems to that. You mentioned ingnition box. 1965 289s used points, condensor and a balast resistor and coils were all about the same. Has this been changed to some kind of capacitor discharge ignition or just plain newer electronic ignition? A very common problem is poor cooling. Fan shrouds are custom if at all and fans could be about anything by now so say what you have for that. Another problem from yesteryear was vapor lock which is the heat of the engine overheats the fuel in the line to carb and it vaporizes in the line and stops the show. If this is a hot weather only problem you might want to re-route the fuel line to a cooler spot. Try to tell us what systems are in it now for things like the carb, type of choke heater, distributor, fuel pump (electric available but not 1965) and the cooling system and how it looks and cools the radiator. If it still has a fan on water pump or what has been done. How long have you owned this car? Your history of how it has worked for you could help too, T
