probably full of carbon....cold start is ok.....dont need to keep cranking on it.......idle rpms go up and down when at operating temp....advice is mixed.....if the throttle body on the EFI is removed will a clean out of the IAC solve it or need a new IAC? ...

You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try eliminating any vacuum leaks and cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.

Year, make, model?

A vacuum leak will cause idle surging.

chuck>>>>>>did all that.....removed the snorkel from the air breather intake crossing over the radiator to the throttle air intake......the butterfly and ports were a little carboned.....sprayed carb cleaner into the throttle intake and the port holes under the butterfly then let it sit for awhile......not much better.....i need to remove the throttle body then remove the IAC.....ill try a cleanup first.......

chuck>>>>>94 toyota pickup base model 22re EFI 5speed......late 80s to 95 was pretty much the same on the 22re EFI.....its running ok.....it was a little run down.....i have more work to do on it.....started it up and sprayed carb cleaner in all vacuum lines with a vacuum to clean out the carbon.....ill spray around with soapy water and look for bad vacuum lines and air leaks.......thanks

follow up on the 88-94 toyota 22re IAC.
there was some carbon but it was not the problem. the coolant lines circulation were plugged.
removed the throttle body then the IAC.
a block in the IAC chambers and another at the thermostat housing coolant feed.
much better..the idle air screw works proper.
