smell gas when accellerting Sign In

Frown 1988 GMC 350 has a strong smell of gas when accelerating. Using a lot of gas lately. I don't see any gas leaking at Throttle body. Would rebuilding TB versus replacing TB be beneficial? thanks

First you need to determine what is leaking before you decide how or what to fix.

Replaced fuel pump/sending unit @ 3 months ago [no leaks] I see no leaks around the intake/throttle body. Past 2 weeks it has been using a lot of gas. 30 gallon tank of fuel lasts @a week now.. Check engine light comes on upon hard acceleration then goes off... As far as I know, it has the original TB and O2 sensors. Snog pump squeals on acceleration also.

If you're smelling fuel, you have a leak and you have to find it. You will likely have to look on a lift with the engine running as the fuel will evaporate real quickly. Look for stains also. It can be anywhere between the fuel tank and the fuel injectors.

Re: smell gas when accellerting Sign In

sorry for the delay in follow-up ~ everything checked out; NO leaks anywhere.. Changed out Smog Pump, fuel filter, and O2 sensor. Smell of gas has since dissipated. Time to lift radiator cap off this 88 and place it on a New vehicle.... thanks for the helpWink
