serpentine belt slips off Sign In

2000 Town & Country van has a 3.8, new belt tension, loaded with air.
It started out if you hit a big puddle the belt would come off. Now with rain on the road the belt falls off. Have done a little search and gates has a repair for this problem, but information was limited. Any ideas, the work so far has been done by my 30 year working on my stuff, tech, and was content with the new tension.
Please, any info. on this problem ? or point me to a thread that I missed.

Re: serpentine belt slips off Sign In

I have run across this a couple times on Caravans and it's usually because someone has removed the splash pan below the belt that prevents water from spraying up from the road.

Re: serpentine belt slips off Sign In

There is also an aftermarket kit that has the pulleys with outside ridges on them to help hold belt in place. We don't have many Caravans, but our 2 newest had same problem. Installed new pulleys and have not had any more problems. Our problem was the original pulleys would not line up properly anymore. Seems like the PS pulley was always cocking a little off center.

I didn't realize those kits were available but it sounds like a good idea. It's a pretty common problem.

I think we get ours locally from Car Quest. Don't know if you have any of those in your area.

Re: serpentine belt slips off Sign In

Just to add - splash shields are important to these in particlular. Saw one suck water into intake and destroy the engine - egad - for just hitting a puddle!

OK: So far so good DW. I think there's an aftermarket thing to help for this trouble and worth some looking into,
