seat ibiza stalling

i own a 1998 seat ibiza 1.4 sxe,all of a sudden it started to stall with no warning wotsoever,now it stalls all the time when i pull up to a junction and dip the clutch,it restarts ok but smells heavily of fuel please help as the car is used for my job

brendy; Sorry, but I've never heard of a Seat Ibiza. But, the strong smell of fuel along with the stalling, sounds like it is running way too rich. This is going to sound strange, but check your coolant level. What kind of ambient temperatures are you dealing with? What I'm getting at, is the coolant temp. sensor. If the engine is low on coolant, the sensor will not read correctly and can cause the overfueling issue. Same thing if the sensor is faulty. I may be completely wrong, but it's a place to start. Whatever, do not let this go. Over-fueling can destroy an engine very quickly as the unburned fuel will get into the engine oil and dillute it to the point it will no longer lubricate.
