I have a 1999 seat ibiza, 1.4. Recently it has been burning alot of oil, i have been topping it up every few weeks, the other day i went to top it up and there was all creamy stuff around the oil cap. it has also been a bit smoky from the exhaust. Is this defnitly a head gasket problem or could it be something else? thanks

What about the oil itself. Is it dark and transparent or milky? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

It looks quite normal, the dipstick is clear to, no creamy stuff on that.

Then it's just condensation on the cap.

What history do you have on this like, miles, speed you commonly drive and if known, proper maintenance history? How long in miles or KMs if you wish does it take to consume how much oil? What kind of oil are you using? Viscosity wise would like to know. Some gunk under an oil cap could be written off as plain moisture and the smoke seen out exhaust while not a good sign could be something other than just a worn engine. Ever run it too low on oil or overheat this car? It all counts in the guess work of what this is, T

Apart from the oil problems the car runs fine, it doesnt overheat.

From what you just said that engine is junk! Why it was low we don't know but you drove it and wrecked it. Tough nuts, T
