s-10 flooding enough for gas in oil Sign In

Chevy S-10 1995, 260+ thousand miles, 4.3 with throttle body injection. We have replaced fuel pump, computer without the PCM. It will idle with the throttle wide open but not at the start. The spark plugs get carboned within seconds. We have checked the coil,IAC,TBS, Fuel pressure is at 12lbs with key on. All wires ohm correctly. New cap and rotor. Compression is an even 125-130lbs in all cylinders. To use a scanner it has the OBDII and is a vector motor. It is almost like parts are from different years in the same car. It still will not idle help me please

Have you pulled codes yet.... If so post them here.

Hopefully your scanner can see a datastream. Take a quick look at the air & coolant temps (ECT & IAT) and see that they are showing. Also see how the long the injector pulse width is.

I'm guessing the "comp w/o the PCM" is the ign control module?

The problem is common with all the GM vehicles made between 1992 - 1995, that have the 4.3L Vortec vin code "W". The 4.3L Vortec has a CPI (Central Port Injection) system that has proven to be quite problematic. These injection systems consist of a large fuel injector that has tube going to each cylinder (six total). This injector is located in the plenum. (must remove upper intake to see it) The problem with these systems is that they develop leaks, these leaks occur in either the FPR (fuel pressure regulator) mounted on the side of the injector or the internal fuel lines leading to the injector assembly The FPR is located on the passenger side half of the intake. The cylinders on the side that develops the leak, get flooded by fuel causing a rich condition. This rich condition can cause the engine to run rough, create a strong smell of raw fuel, set O2 sensor codes, cause excessive carbon build up that plugs the EGR valve, set EGR codes, and/or cause raw fuel to enter the oil which destroys the engine.

I believe he mentioned this was a TBI system...... But all that does hold true for the CPI systems....

I was going on the presumption that he was confused which eng he had . He stated that he had a "vector" motor which could have been a mispelling of "vortec" many people confuse the throttle intake butterfly with a throttlebody. This is why I asked if it was a "W" motor. Your input is always welcome. RT
