I have a 97 passat vr6 engine.This car ran great. last weekend I decided to clean the engine. I degreased it and sprayed it off with the water hose. been over a week and now it still runs like its going on 5 cylinders. I replaced the spark plugs and spark plug wires. I checked all the connections and they are all tight where do I go from here

There's no end to how dumb it is to hose off an engine.
The things that hate that the most are the secondary ignition items that are the high voltage items anywhere. If engine was warm you may have plain cracked something. If it was running or maybe not it could have sucked in water.
See if you can isolate it to one cylinder or if random. If dark enough you might get lucky and see spark arcing somewhere,
