old school here. basic knowledge but haven't kept up with electronic crap or injection.
son has 90 sunbird throttle body 2.0. rough idle, idle speeds up, slows down randomly. loads up when cold/black exhaust. have to feather pedal to take off like you would with bad leather on old carb pump.
changed throttle position sensor. no change.
took to auto 'specialists'. said maybe clogged converter. ran same with it off.
did notice today that when i slid heat control to defrost, motor sped up, then slowed down when moved to other position.
have checked for vacuum underhood leaks with wd40. none.
any info appreciated.

Seems like this engine is leaking down too much fuel thru injection or that it always thinks it's stone cold like a choke that won't shut off. This will plug cat/conv if left this way too long. You do know that with injection that feathering the gas pedal doesn't pump fuel like with an accellerator pump in carbs?
