1997 ford escort 2.0l eng. when i punch the gas or try to accelerate rapidly , the car loses power. it doesnt backfire , it just acts as though it isnt getting gas . i have not tried to do anything yet , we just got the car.

Check the intake snorkel for leaks and clean the MAF sensor.
