Try doing it in your driveway with the serpentine belt off. If it still stalls you know the trouble is electrical in the column, if not you have a problem in the rack and pinion.

Hi Blazin,

Have you repaired your problem yet?

How many miles are on this car?

Is it worn out with lots of problems, or has it been fairly well maintained?

1. Is the shifter in the steering column or on the console?

Is the steering column loose?

Is the steering wheel loose?

Does this vehicle have tilt steering?

If the shifter is in the steering column, then the neutral safety switch is also on the steering column. And if the shifter or steering shaft is loose, then the neutral safety switch will not allow the engine to start until it becomes properly aligned with the shifter neutral or park positions.

2. Does the engine run poorly at idle?

The power steering hydraulic system has a high pressure sensor switch that turns off the A/C compressor at high pressure loads, like when the P/S is turned max right or max left. This is to prevent engine stall at idle under peak demands: Like turning sharp with the A/C on and poor running engine.

3. Outside of all this, maybe you have a starter wire/cable out of place and being disturbed by the steering mechanism.

I hope this helps you in your persuit and solution of this problem.

Sincerely,

Wayne.
