overheating problem

My problem is my wife got to work this morning and she said that the temperature gauge went way up and she could feel hot air coming through the vents with the ac on.She said it only did it when she was stopped.They filled the reservoir up but said it didnt take much.Could this be a thermostat problem

Check to see if the cooling fans are working properly.

I checked the fans and neither one is working.I swapped out the fuses and still doesnt work
|

They will only come on when the PCM detects an engine temp high enough to warrant the cooling fans to turn on. You can trigger them manually by either jumping the load side terminals of the relay of doing an ATM test with a scanner that has bi-directional control capability.

after further checking one of the plugs were loose.Tightened it up and all is good.Thanks for all the answers for things to check

Glad it worked out and thanks for posting the fix. Sometimes the simplest things are the solution and the first things to check. Happy it wasn't some expensive parts.

If the contacts were loose then it likely overheated the connectors and your fix will only be temporary. You should replace that pigtail and the fan is likely on the way out.
