I have a 92 chevy P/U with 240000mi, when I am running down the road and on a cool day thwe temp is fine, but when the day time temp gets over 90 and I stop at a drive thru or stop at a long red light the temp creeps up the 240 or 260.
Last year I replaced the radiator, water pump, and therostat. ANY IDEAS or is it just old???

Re: overheating Sign In

Have you checked the fan clutch? This is what pulls air across the radiator during idling conditions.

Hmmm?? You've done enough stuff then that should be working and isn't. My only thought for this is flushing out the coolant and make sure it's not over 50/50 which = protection to -34F but setting it to -20F will help with cooling exchange.

Anti-freeze is a lousy coolant. Salt water would be best except is corrosive and don't try that. Plain water will perform but doesn't have the rust protection and that's wicked important. Too much anti-freeze will cause problems. Watch out for inaccurate testers, T

Have you verified the engine is actually overheating, or just going by the gauge reading? Gauge or sending unit could be off causing a false reading. Did you do a complete system flush when the repairs were made, or a drain and fill?

Re: overheating Sign In

Who’s fan clutch did you use for a replacement. I’ve had nothing but trouble with after market fan clutches; they will not engage soon enough, if at all. If everything else seem “ok” I would try an OE clutch from the dealer.
