overheating Sign In

i have a 96 jeep grand cherokee 4x4 is over heating in town but highway it about 195F this is what it has new thermostat, water pump, radiator, fuild and i have no water in oil the gage is right and the engine runs fine other than over heating im stumped. any ideas??

Sounds like the radiator cooling fan is not coming on. When you are driving there is enough air flowing through the radiator to keep it cool. But when you are not moving the radiator fan keeps the car cool. It could be the relay or the fan itself.

?? Pretty sure this uses a fan clutch which can fail that badly. A/C would suffer at lower speeds and fan might "coast" when spun by hand (engine off, engine fully warmed up and keys out please!) and if just recently started this behavior it may be one of the very few that the belt can be on such that fan spins the wrong way,
