oil pressure Sign In

Help!!, I bought a used 1996 Dodge Dakota sport. It had been sitting for at least a year. There is no oil pressure after running for at least 10 minutes. I have changed the oil sensor and that didn't help. There was a lot of sludge when the dip stick was pulled. How do I clean it out, without tearing the whole engine apart. Any ideas on getting the oil pressure where it should be??

try using motor flush to loosen the sludge as well as it may clean all passages to allow the oil to circulate. use a motor flush that does not contain kerosene because it will strip the bearings. Marvels Mystery oil or seafoam may work. add the mystery oil or seafoam to your oil, run for 5 to 10 minutes, then drain oil, allowing 5 to 10 minutes for sludge to drain out. pour 1 quart any grade motor oil through to finish clean out. then continue normal oil change. this might fix your oil pressure problem without major work. even if it does not totally fix the problem, it should remove most of the oil sludge.

Re: oil pressure Sign In

This had oil pressure when started, but after 10 minutes the oil pressure dropped, I shut the truck off. I have done 3 oil changes on it, also have taken the valve covers off, cleaned them, put new gaskets on and reinstalled them. I am going to try the Marvel mystery oil and see what that gets me. If not, besides tearing the engine apart, I don't know what else to try.

Re: oil pressure Sign In

It takes time to de-sludge so change the oil filter by the week or more and add oil of course back to full. You may win as said -- I have before with a car I really wanted but it took some time, Good luck, T
