Search Auto Parts Search oil leak issue Sign up here!   Email This Post Auto Repair Home>> Automotive Repair>> Engine Troubleshooting magicman92625 Novice Feb 18, 2009, 2:01 PM Post #1 of 4 (1558 views) oil leak issue Sign In Hi I'm still working on the 53 chevy thanks to your guys help she is running nicely but now she leaks at the front of the pan we have changed the gasket again last time we used the rubber seals front and rear and she leaked worse the second try we used the cork with a coat of copper coat the pan looks pretty flat checked it with a straight edge etc. I trimmed the seal where the corners meet thinking I would get the corners better was this a mistake??? as it still leaks in the same area and now I think we over torqued the bolts...... ordered another gasket to try one more time any thoughts please help again ...by the by she has high oil pressure cool and after warm up it still runs around thirty pounds or more when above idle speeds idling warm it comes down to 15 pounds (it is a new gague) Thanks for your thoughts Scott B. Regardless, don't trim those rubber seals. I like to use 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive to 'glue' if you will, the gasket to the pan. Then, use silicone to adhere the rubber seals in place. I always put a generous 'dab' of silicone at each end of the rubber seals where they meet the block. Make darned sure that all of the block and front/rear seal areas are nice and clean. (Got that from my grandson.LOL) I'd try straightening the pan the best I could while it's off, but if the front and rear 'U' shaped areas are damaged, a LOT of silicone? Just try and be as meticulous as you can when reinstalling the pan and hope for the best. It's been soooo many years since I worked on one of those. Could it possibly be the front crank seal that is leaking, rather than the pan? I can't remember how they were set up. Could you take a pic of the pan and post it? May help?
