kristie; Was the belt broken when you replaced it? This in an interference engine, meaning that if the timing belt breaks at the wrong time, or if installed incorrectly, valve damage is possible. The ignition system uses a crankshaft sensor, rather than a distributor, to tell it 'when' to send spark to the plugs. We'll need a bit more information to continue. Have you taken a compression test? May want to recheck the timing marks before cranking the engine over any more? Loren SW Washington

kristie; "Missing a lot of teeth" is the same thing as being broken, sorry to say. Usually, the crank gear (sprocket) will chew off the teeth of the belt. The crankshaft will continue turning while the cam(s) don't. That's when engine damage can occur. Loren SW Washington

Loren is right. You need to do a complete compression test before going any further. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Where you forced to replace the belt by something like... the car no longer moving forward? a tinging noise in the top of the engine? When you crank on the engine does it sound as strong as it did, before you had to replace the belt? If the engine still isnt timed correctly, then yea it still wont start.
