hi there, this one is quite a mystery: our 2000 ford winstar's motor and electric died suddenly while driving. and it did it a second time in the exact same spot, but otherwise runs fine. i'll explain: while entering the freeway, turning right in a circular on-ramp, the motor and electricity died, the accelerator, brake pedals, and steering wheel stiffened, etc. so obviously a serious hazard! I coasted to the shoulder and, once stopped, was able to start the car again. after this it has driven in the city and on the freeway just fine. but when i entered the very same on-ramp, it died again in the exact same spot (about 360 degrees into the turn, just about to enter the freeway). this is all in the last 8 hours. some other info: the engine starts quickly, there's no prolonged cranking. the battery hasn't given us any trouble. one week ago we had a car stereo installed at best buy. i took it back today because the driver side power lock and window switches were dead. they fixed it easily, "just plugged in" the necessary wire. is it just a coincidence that the car died in motion soon after i drove it out of their shop? when the car had died and was coasting to the shoulder, i tried to restart the engine (even though i was still in drive gear), and the stereo speakers crackled. the first time it died, i had the AC and the stereo running. the second time i did not have them on, but it died just the same. FYI, about 2 months ago i had a rebuilt transmission installed. i figure it's a good puzzle for a mechanic in the boston area, but i don't know who to go to. best buy said they'd accept a claim if it was found to be their fault. in the meantime it's a possible hazard for my family in transit. thanks for any ideas, further questions, etc! brian

I'm not completely sure on this but the info you gave makes me think of the powersteering pressure switch could be causing your problem.
