1993 Chevy S10
2.5L L4 [Iron Duke] with 5 speed manual
Since getting it I did the plugs and wires and not much else, just oil changes and upkeep. I recently noticed a vacuum was broken then noticed several more. My EGR sensor needed cleaned (code 32) about a week ago, when I did that I inadvertently knocked off the TPS sensor plug which I didn't figure out for 2 days (cuz the plug was only loose at first). I decided to 'give it the beans' on Friday and tested out my 0 to 60 time (about 23 seconds). On Saturday I started it up and as I tried to head down the block it was jerking badly, I checked the oil just to see and it was on the low line, which was weird since I had checked it last weekend and it was fine. (I did get a new oil pan gasket but have yet to put it on, I wonder if it leaks more when I gun it.) I had found that it would rev all the way up when out of gear but would fight me terribly in gear unless I gave it a LOT of gas. It was drivable but very awkward when accelerating cuz it would still misfire or backfire (i think) or feel like the engine was coming to a stop. On advice from a useless person I remove my catalytic converter to see if the cat was plugged. I tried to drive it without and it was almost undrivable for all the backfires happening. This tells me it is more likely to be my intake because if it were my transmission then I imagine it would have VERY quickly fallen to pieces. I have NO clue what it might be. I think if were just a sensor that went out it would set off a code (which it somehow hasn't) and the computer would have just defaulted to something that just burned gas. I wouldn't think it was a spark plug or wire because it runs without load just fine.

What does the distributor cap and rotor look like? Any cracks or carbon tracking going on?
Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Not that I noticed but tomorrow I think I'm gonna just gonna replace them.

Hello I seem to be having the same issues with my 90 s10 also running the 2.5L L4 [Iron Duke] with 5 speed manual I have yet to find out what the problem is but I have narrowed it down to being a timing issue. I figure its ether The timing Chane has stretched Ore my Distributer has lost place, Iv got to find out what the problem is for sure otherwise i cant fix it. Did you ever get the chance to fix yours? if so what was the deal.
And yes id have to say Red lining your engine will cause you oil pressure to sky rocket and will blow out old seals and Push oil strew the cracks if a new seal isn't placed soon.
When I take my intake assembly off I noticed that there is a heavy black suit from the engine backfiring into the intake, I first thought it was a bent valve but quickly reconsider when the back fire wasn't in any kinda order but completely random.
