Sorry, but can't tell you how to bypass an ignition switch due to the security concerns. We can advise you on how to diagnose your problem though. Which dash lights are not working? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Of course the heater and wipers are not going to work without an operational ignition switch. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

In the yellow pages............... Looking for a competent electric tech to troubleshoot and repair whatever the problem is. If you don't have a working key, the lock will have to be replaced.

I have the key and the lock and key to replace it so I guess what I need to know is where the heck is the button located on the cylinder that I need to push in while I'm in the ACC position. I have searched the little bugger and found one on the bottom front lip of it, but I could push and jiggle the key until the cows come home and it isn't coming out of there. Will someone please give me a step by step on how to replace the key lock on a 93 ford escort?

OK, here ya go Removal - Remove the steering wheel.
- Remove the multi-function switch.
- Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
- Remove the shift-lock cable mounting bracket bolt and position. the bracket and cable aside.
- Remove the four steering column upper mounting bracket bolts and lower the column.
- Using a hammer and chisel, make a groove in the head of each of the two column lock mounting bracket bolts.
- Remove the bolts with a screwdriver and discard the bolts.
- Remove the steering column lock and mounting bracket.
Installation - Position the steering column lock and mounting bracket and install two new bolts, tightening them only enough to hold the column lock in position.
- With the key in the ignition, verify the operation of the column lock. If necessary, reposition the column lock until it operates properly.
- Tighten the mounting bracket bolts until the bolt heads break off.
- Position the steering column and install the four upper mounting bracket bolts. Tighten the bolts to 9-14 N.m (8-123 lb-in) .
- On tilt column, remove the upper mounting bracket retaining pin.
- Position the shift-lock cable mounting bracket and install the bolt. Tighten the bolt to4-6 Nm (37-55 lb-in) .
- Connect the ignition switch electrical connector.
- Install the multi-function switch.
- Install the steering wheel.
- Inspect the shift-lock system.

For automatic trans models as standards are different. This info can be wrong and is just for the "lock cylinder".......... T ------------------------------------------- 1991-96 Models See Figures 1 and 2 CAUTIONSome models covered by this guide are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in Chassis Electrical . Before continuing with this procedure, make sure to have available a new steering wheel retaining bolt and two lock cylinder retaining bolts. Once removed, these parts lose their torque holding ability (or retention capability) and must not be reused. - If equipped, disarm the air bag system and disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the steering wheel.
- Remove the combination switch.
- Unplug the wiring connector to the ignition switch.
- Remove the ignition and shifter interlock cable mounting bracket bolt and position the assembly to one side.
- Remove the four steering column bracket bolts and lower the steering column.
- Cut a groove in the ignition cylinder bracket bolts with a chisel and hammer or use a similar method.
- Using a screwdriver, remove and discard the bracket bolts.
- Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder and bracket.
Fig. Fig. 1: Unfasten the ignition and shifter interlock cable mounting bracket bolt, and position the assembly to one side Fig. Fig. 2: Use a chisel and hammer to cut a groove in the ignition cylinder bracket bolts-1991-96 models shown; 1997-99 models similar To install:
- Install the new ignition switch and the bracket into position on the steering column tube.
- Install the new lock cylinder bolts and tighten the bolts enough to hold the switch in position.
- Check for proper switch operation by rotating the key to each position. If necessary, reposition the lock cylinder until it operates properly.
- If positioned properly, tighten the retaining bolts until the bolt head shears off.
- Raise and position the steering column. Tighten the bracket bolts to 80-124 inch lbs. (9-14 Nm).
- If equipped with tilt column, remove the upper mounting bracket retaining pin.
- Position the interlock cable bracket. Install and tighten the retaining bolt to 35-53 inch lbs. (4-6 Nm).
- Attach the wiring connector to the ignition switch.
- Install the combination switch.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Confirm operational status of the air bag system by turning the ignition key to the RUN position and visually monitoring the air bag indicator lamp in the instrument cluster. The indicator lamp should illuminate for approximately 6 seconds and then turn OFF. If the indicator lamp does not illuminate, stays ON, or flashes at any time, a fault has been detected by the air bag diagnostic monitor.
- Check the steering wheel, horn and combination switch functions for proper operation.
